Largest wave ever ridden by man
Surfers and storm chasers have a lot in common. They want to see Mother Nature at her best, and they want to be right in the middle of it. Well, maybe not all of us want to be right in the middle of it, but you get the idea.
Storm chasers spend their career looking at forecast charts and finding out where they need to be in order to get that "perfect" shot of a storm. Extreme big wave surfers do the same. They read ocean current charts and find out where they need to paddle out in order to catch that "perfect" wave.
Extreme wave rider Garrett McNamara from Hawaii followed a monster swell just off the coast of Portugal. A big storm had created big surf which regular people like you and I, would just watch from the shore. But this guy had a different idea.
Now let me remind you, when surfing waves this big, you can't paddle into them. They just don't have the form and you'd be going too slow. You need some kind of device that can pull you into the wave. In this case, a jetski.
Garrett and a buddy began surfing some of these monsters when a Rogue wave (An unpredictable, abnormally large wave that occurs on a seemingly random basis in the oceans) happened to move in right when he was out to sea. These waves could easily kill anyone in its path, unless you know how to escape it.
Now surfers around the world are coming together to watch this one video to see if it actually is the biggest wave ever ridden.
