Tony and Cristi Cubito, of Couple Counseling Services are offering a free one-day communication seminar for couples on November 7th from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at the Red Lion Inn at 205 Coburg Rd. in Eugene.

They are concerned with today’s high break-up rate. They keep seeing that couples are not adequately prepared to co-create a functional primary relationship and that couples don’t understand what goes wrong and what to do when problems arise. As a result so many people get hurt. This is their offering to help couples learn how to identify issues and acquire effective communication skills.

They teach that up to forty years ago, socially, we had a patriarchal system, which means that the rules were more important than the people. Now, after the hippie movement, women’s lib, the civil rights movement and Viet Nam we have evolved to a social matriarchy in which the people are more important than the rules. Because we have two equal partners with equal rights and privileges it takes understanding and communication skills for partners to become a healthy and functional couple. This is the first time in the history of our country that it has been like this. Consequently all of us couples are like pioneers. And we know that the frontiers’ peoples’ lives were short and rugged.

This seminar is for all couples no matter how long they have been together.

Through exercises, demonstrations, and talks each couple will have the opportunity to learn how to identify unresolved issues, how to handle disagreements, practice adult-to-adult communication skills, and learn how to co-create the relationship they want.

You can register online at www.couplesjourney.com or from 8:30 to 9:00 am, November 7th at the Red Lion Inn. Seating is limited.
