"When I came in when I was younger, I was a little bit smaller," Roane said. "I hadn't really gotten matured yet and I think what's added to my game is attacking the basket and finishing at the rim."

NORTH BEND, Ore. - The North Bend High School boys basketball team is looking to bounce back from their fourth place finish at the state tournament a year ago.

At the helm is a senior trying to make sure his final season is one to remember.

Senior player Ty Roane's season will have a big impact on how far the Bulldogs can go.

"He's worked really hard at his game," coach Tom Nicholls said. "He's a good ball handler, a good shooter and he understands the game. He passes the ball really well, so this should be a really good senior year for him."

Nicholls has coached Roane all 4 years at North Bend.

"When I came in when I was younger, I was a little bit smaller," Roane said. "I hadn't really gotten matured yet and I think what's added to my game is attacking the basket and finishing at the rim."

Coach Nicholls said it's not just Roane's physical build that has matured.

"His maturity level in terms of how he approaches the game definitely has improved a lot, and then just his overall presence on the floor and his understanding of the game and composure," coach said.

Roane averaged 15 points a game last season at point guard. This year he will have to make a few adjustments as he switches positions.

"We moved ty to the two where he can catch and shoot a little bit more and have more opportunities to score that way," coach said.

Roane found many opportunites in their season opener against Bandon, scoring 20 points.

"If O hit my first two, I usually test it to see if I'm hot, I can pretty much shoot from anywhere," Roane said.

The Bulldogs will need a hot hand from Roane the rest of the season to reach their goal.

"Same goal as last year: win league and then get to the state championship," Roane said.
