Miami, FL (Sports Network) - The Miami Marlins named Tino Martinez the team's new hitting coach on Thursday.

Martinez, a four-time World Series winner with the New York Yankees, takes over for Eduardo Perez, who recently was hired as Houston's bench coach.

The Marlins had a team batting average of .244 last season, which ranked 13th in the National League. Miami was also 15th in the NL in runs scored with 609.

Martinez was a career .277 hitter during his playing days with the Yankees, Seattle Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Rays.
