Lots of people have sports blogs, so really, why not us? I mean, there are plenty of sports bloggers on the Internet who never see the teams they're writing about in person. We'll be the first to admit that some of them are quite good. On the other hand, lots of them aren't.
Our goal space is to share some of the things that we learn that are interesting - but can't include in that three- to four-minute window we have on TV every night. We'd also like to share some of the so-called "inside baseball" stuff that goes on here at the station. A lot of little things have to go right every night for those segments to make air. And there are lots of people who work here who make those few minutes go right who don't get acknowledged on the air. So expect to see them mentioned here.
Other "inside baseball" stuff we're planning on doing is, for instance, listing the games we're covering on Friday Night Fever that week and the photographers who will be there. So we'll share what we're the planning and coverage choices we're making. Not everybody will like the choices, but at least here we'll have a chance to explain why we're going to the games we're going to and perhaps the number of angry email messages we receive will lessen a smidge. Or maybe not, but we can hope.
So thanks for reading the first one. We'll be around weekly to fulfill your information and entertainment needs. How's that for specifics?
("inside baseball" #1- regular watchers of Friday Night Fever and Sports Overtime will notice we've started to say the phrase "Ya know!" on the air very loudly during those shows. It's an inside joke here at the station - an imitation of an imitation of an imitation of a reporter imitating one of the sports guys. It's perhaps gotten slightly out of hand and our co-workers are starting to get tired of it and asking us to stop. So we figured we'd say it on-air . . .)
