Colt McCoy threw for a career-high 470 yards
with two touchdowns, leading second-ranked Texas to a 35-3 rout of UCF at
Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
McCoy completed 33-of-42 passes, 11 of which went to Jordan Shipley, who
finished with a school-record 273 yards receiving. McCoy's yardage total was
three shy of Major Applewhite's school record of 473 set in the 2001 Holiday
Bowl, while Shipley's total eclipsed Tony Jones' previous school mark of 242
yards set in the 1987 Bluebonnet Bowl.
"I did not even know until they told me on the headsets with about nine
minutes left," McCoy said of the yardage record. "I am very happy for Jordan.
He is a receiver that definitely deserves it and has definitely put in the
work. If you ask Jordan or if you ask me, we are all in. We just want to win."
Cody Johnson also rushed for a pair of scores for the Longhorns (9-0), who
outgained UCF 537-151.
Jonathan Davis ran for 71 yards for UCF (5-4), which had won its last two
games.
"We came in against the No. 2 team in the nation, and they played like the No.
2 team in the nation," UCF linebacker Cory Hogue said.
Hunter Lawrence missed a 44-yard field goal attempt on the Longhorns' first
possession and UCF drove to the Texas 31 before punting. The Knights got the
ball back at their own 42 soon after and reached the Texas 22 before taking
the lead on a 39-yard field goal from Nick Cattoi two minutes into the second
quarter.
The Longhorns responded with a quick 80-yard touchdown march. Shipley caught a
44-yard pass on the first play after the kickoff and Johnson capped the four-
play series with a 20-yard scoring run for a 7-3 lead.
After a UCF punt, McCoy engineered an 11-play, 72-yard drive for another
score. A 16-yard pass on 3rd-and-6 kept it alive early and Shipley added
another first down with a 19-yard catch. Johnson again finished it off with a
13-yard touchdown run to make it 14-3 just 5 1/2 minutes before the break.
The Longhorns got the ball back and threatened again after Shipley hauled in a
53-yard pass, but McCoy was picked off on his next throw at the UCF 14 in the
final minute of the half.
After a trade of punts to start the second half, McCoy led a 15-play, 87-yard
march that ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass to James Kirkendoll with 3:11
left in the third quarter.
The Longhorns started their ensuing possession from the one-yard line, but
McCoy hit Malcolm Williams on 3rd-and-10 to move the chains and followed with
an 88-yard scoring toss to Shipley, who outraced the UCF defense most of the
way to make it 28-3 just under two minutes into the fourth quarter.
Foswhitt Whittaker scored on a six-yard run a few minutes later to account
for the final margin.

Johnson finished with 44 yards on 10 carries for Texas...UCF quarterback Rob
Calabrese completed 10-of-19 passes for 76 yards...The Knights were 2-of-12 on
third down, while Texas converted 10-of-14 on third down...Texas won the only
previous meeting, 35-32, in Orlando two years ago.
