Skiers hit the slopes at Mt. Bachelor

BEND, Ore. -- Just about every ski lodge in Oregon is hurting for snow, but that's not the case at Mt. Bachelor.

The ski area near Bend received around two feet of snow one week ago.

That allowed workers to open up all but one chair lift, as well as the popular Summit Express lift.

This weekend, many skiers and snowboarders from out of town ventured to Bend to ride for the first time of the season.

With sunny skies and highs in the 40s, more people will be heading for the mountain. "That 40 inches of snow last week helped, so there's a lot of people from Portland and Eugene who came over today for the 3-day weekend, and conditions are awesome. The lift lines can be a little long,” Bend skier Jimmie Porter said.

"Right when you're cutting over and getting into the top of Cow's Face, it's pretty nice. There's a little bit of powder,” Porter’s son Jack said.

The Cirque Bowl, which is in the shade, will remain closed due to icy conditions, and the backside of Mt. Bachelor will remain closed until the area receives additional snow.

Mt. Bachelor has received nearly 10 feet of snow since October.
