SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) -- A new Walmart Neighborhood Market will open at the Gateway Mall in Springfield.

The store brings new jobs and more affordable options to the community offering groceries, pharmaceuticals and general merchandise.

Approximately 65 part-time and full-time associates will be employed at the new store. The average wage at Walmart for full-time associates in Oregon is approximately $13.04 per hour.

"We think the new Springfield Neighborhood Market can be part of the solution for folks who want a job or need more affordable options close to home," said Matti Havener, Walmart Regional General Manager for Oregon and Washington. "We look forward to being a good community partner and neighbor here for years to come."

The new store will feature Oregon produce and foods and a large wine selection.

It will feature a self-serve deli, a self-serve bakery including a cake case, a wide variety of locally-grown fruits and vegetables as well as meats, cheeses and prepared foods.

In addition the store will carry a full line of groceries including frozen foods, meat and dairy products, gluten-free and organic items.

That wage is only for the few who basically run the show with benefits, they keep most at basic wage, and throw them a dime or quarter raise per hr. after time.

Boycott Wal Mart!! Now whoever approved another Wal Mart in Springfield / Eugene area is crazy! They need to study the Daily Finance article 18 things about Wal -Mart that will blow your Mind and the Article Wal -Mart rolls into Battle against Big Three Grocery Chains, look it up on the Net. The Supervalue/ Albertsons chain is suffering, Safeway is holding their own but not by much and who knows how long Fred Meyer/ Kroger can withstand the ruthless Wal -Mart expansion across the entire country. Please No More Wal- Marts in all of Oregon and stop the one trying to come to Springfield Oregon

And somehow having a Target carrying groceries less than 300 feet away has nothing to do with it.
