COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (KMTR) - City says it is working backward to see how far back losses go.
The City of Cottage Grove is digging deeper into an embezzlement investigation; it is reviewing every single financial transaction to figure out how much money was stolen.
The investigation started in January when the mayor announced a staff member who handles utility bills had been fired for allegedly taking money. No arrests have been made.
The city manager says forensic accountants are starting with the most recent transactions and working backward to figure out just how far back the problem goes.
Computer results are being compared with paper records.
