COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (KMTR) -- The City of Cottage Grove says long-time employee is being investigated but no arrests have been made. The city is launching a criminal investigation after money goes missing from city funds.

City Manager Richard Meyers says the suspect, who has only been identified as a long-time city employee, found a weakness in the computer system and took advantage of it to steal money.

Investigators don't know exactly how much money is gone or how long the theft has been going on.

Meyers says the theft was discovered after after a customer came in with a question about a city account on January 16.

The suspect has been fired, but no arrests have been made yet.

All passwords have been changed and the city doesn't believe anyone's personal information has been compromised.
