FORT HOOD, Texas - For the second time in 5 years, President Obama mourned with the Fort Hood community after a deadly on-base shooting.

The president and Mrs. Obama arrived Wednesday afternoon. Flags were lowered to half-staff at the massive army base in honor of the victims.

The first couple met with the families of the three victims before the memorial ceremony began.

The president recalled the bravery shown by the three soldiers slain in last week's shootings.

"It was love for country that inspired these three Americans to put on the uniform and join the greatest army that the world has ever known: Sergeant First Class Daniel Ferguson, Staff Sergeant Carlos Lazeney- Rodriguez, Sergeant Timothy Owens."

The president pledged a renewed effort to care for military personnel returning home from war and to improve counseling for Americans with mental health issues.
