EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A global tribute to Michael Jackson took place Saturday afternoon right in the heart of downtown Eugene with zombies, dance moves and an all-time classic song.
About one hundred dancers and hundreds more spectators took part in the Thrill the World dance event on Saturday, October 27.
Around noon all of the participating dancers, most of whom were from the Eugene-Springfield area, dressed as zombies and performed the famous dance moves to the legendary Michael Jackson song. It’s the first time Eugene has participated in the event.
The dancers have been practicing for weeks as part of the international Thrill the World charity dance campaign. The event started in 2007 with organizers trying to break world records and to help charities.
Thrill the World Eugene is helping ShelterCare.
"Our numbers grew every week at every practice and to see them all come together, all 100-plus of them today, and to be in their zombie gear and do the dance, was just thrilling,” says Margo Jennings, one of the primary organizers of the Thrill the World Eugene event.
Organizers are already planning to bring the dance event back to Eugene in 2013, the Saturday before Halloween.
