Springfield (KMTR) - Hundreds were moving their muscles Sunday in Springfield to help fight muscular dystrophy as the Eugene branch of the Muscular Dystrophy Assocation held its annual Muscle Walk.

The fundraiser at the Willamalane Center will help fund research and activities for kids and adults fighting more than 40 different kinds of muscle diseases.

In the Eugene-Springfield area, much of the money goes to provide services, support group clinics and to pay for summer camp.

Nanda Sturm, MDA’s local executive director, said, “We can cure these people … so we don't have kids suffering Duchenne (dystrophy) and having to be in a wheel chair at just a few years old. It's a huge deal and our hope is that every event we do continues to be more mission-driven, to drive that in the community and make them understand.”

MDA Eugene hoped to raise $15,000 with this year's Muscle walk”
