CORVALLIS, Ore. (KMTR) -- The Oregon State Beaver football team will be without starting quarterback Sean Mannion for at least a month.
Oregon State doctors confirmed Tuesday that Mannion suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and will likely undergo surgery Wednesday. They say his recovery should take at least a month.
Cody Vaz will make his first college start Saturday when the Number 10 Beavers travel to take on BYU. Vaz is a junior and has not thrown a touchdown since high school. He has not played in a game since the 2010 Civil War.
Oregon State Offensive Coordinator Danny Langsdorf says he talked with Vaz about being "one play away" not that long ago and that Vaz has done well preparing for his chance, not knowing exactly when it would come.
BYU Will also be starting a new quarterback. Senior Riley Nelson, who beat the Beavers last year at Reser Stadium, will start for the Cougars since their freshman quarterback got hurt and is out for the season.
