EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- With Chip Kelly out, who is in? The University of Oregon says there are no deals in place, but one name has been mentioned more than others.
When Kelly interviewed with the Browns, Bills and Eagles while in Phoenix earlier this month, Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens says they started laying the ground work for a possible replacement search. When Kelly said he was staying, the search process stalled.
Offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich's name has come up repeatedly, but Mullens says there are a number of internal candidates.
“We've got several coaches on our staff who have the experience and background to be head coaches,” said Mullens.
Mullens says there's no strict timeline to find a new coach and the University will follow appropriate policies and procedures.
