EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- The US Army visited Sheldon High School Tuesday to honor a senior student who has been named to the US All-American Marching Band. Cory Mayer is one of just 125 musicians selected from across the country to join the Army’s student band.
He entered the competition by taking part in an on-line audition. It consisted of three separate video clips, including marching and solo performances and an interview.
“It's a process that involves submitting a couple of audition videos. And you submit it to the website and you find out a couple of months later via email,” Cory explained. “And, wow! It's just an incredible opportunity.”
During the Army’s visit to his school, the Sheldon saxophone player received a prestigious All-American jacket in front of his parents and classmates at Dennis Ludwig Stadium.
The winners who are appointed to the All-American Marching Band receive an all-expense-paid trip to San Antonio, Texas,= where they will perform during halftime at the All-American Bowl on January 5, 2013.
