WALDPORT, Ore. (KMTR) - Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into a Friday morning's fatal pedestrian-involved traffic crash that occurred along Highway 101 just south of Waldport.

The pedestrian, Matthew Peter Borgman, age 51, from Waldport, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to Sergeant Cari Boyd, on September 14th at approximately 5:30 AM, a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser passenger car driven by Darrell Bean, age 65 from Yachats, was northbound on Highway 101 near Milepost 158 when it struck a 51-year-old male pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

OSP troopers from the Newport Area Command office are continuing the investigation, including confirming where the pedestrian was positioned on the highway when he was struck.

The highway was closed about four hours.

Another terrible incident involving a pedestrian, I was always taught to face the traffic when walking, and many years ago to also face the traffic when bicyling. Maybe at least if your walking face the traffic-perhaps one could see the vehical coming at them and save a life.
