LANE COUNTY, Ore. (KMTR) -- OR 126 (Florence-Eugene Hwy) remains closed due to a landslide at milepost 24, between Walton and Mapleton in Lane County. The highway will likely remain closed until tomorrow.

The landslide remains active and ODOT crews can not safely attempt to clear the roadway of approximately 500 to 700 cubic yards of mud, rocks, trees and debris.

Geotechnical experts will assess the slide activity later today. Once it's determined to be safe, crews will begin removing the slide.

The detour for westbound motorists is north on Poodle Creek Road, then west on OR 36 to Mapleton and then west on OR 126 to Florence.  Eastbound motorists will reverse the detour.

Heavy wet snow currently is falling in the Coast Range in Lane County, creating additional tree fall and debris on the detour route. Motorists are encouraged to delay travel between Eugene and Florence, if possible.  Otherwise motorists should be prepared for winter road conditions and anticipate delays.
