UPDATE: EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Oregon State Police (OSP) and Lane County Sheriff's Office is continuing to ask for the public's help to locate the suspect drive of the vehicle involved in Wednesday night's hit-and-run along 30th Avenue near Lane Community College (LCC). The 18-year-old male pedestrian died early Thursday morning at a Springfield-area hospital. The victim's name, related information and photographs of a similar vehicle and the victim are being released in this update.According to OSP Master Sergeant Lang Hinkle, on June 6, 2012 at approximately 10:13 PM, Bryson Michael Krissie, age 18, was walking eastbound along the shoulder on 30th Avenue just west of LCC near Gonyea Street when he was struck from behind by an unidentified pickup. According to a witness traveling westbound, the pickup was driving erratically before striking the victim and continued eastbound from the scene without stopping.
Krissie was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend where he died about 12:30 AM. Krissie was living in Eugene, a part-time student at LCC. He is from the Dexter area and was a volunteer junior firefighter for Dexter Rural Fire Department.
The suspect vehicle is described as a dark colored late 1990s to early 2000 Chevrolet extended cab pickup. It is believed the pickup is raised or "lifted" about 6 inches; there is no license plate information. Evidence found at the scene indicates the pickup should have front damage. Photographs provided with this release are of a similar year, color and model of the suspect vehicle.
OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command are continuing the investigation; Senior Trooper Blaine Hlebechuk is the lead investigator. EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- The Lane County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian near Lane Community College late Wednesday night.
The victim died early Thursday morning at RiverBend Medical Center.
Investigators said an 18-year-old man wearing dark clothing was walking along the shoulder of 30th Avenue shortly after 10 PM when he was hit from behind by an eastbound pickup truck. A witness driving in the opposite direction saw the incident and said the pickup driver just kept going after hitting the pedestrian.
The name of the victim has not been released.
Police are looking for a dark-colored late 1990s to early 2000s Chevrolet extended cab pickup. The pickup may be modified with the body of the truck raised or "lifted" about 6 inches.
Oregon State Police continue to investigate the crash and ask anyone with useful information to call 800 452-7888.
