EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A Eugene woman has died from her injuries after being hit by a van Tuesday night in West Eugene.

58-year-old Jolene Louise Parrish of Eugene died Wednesday morning, December 13, according to Eugene Police.

Police says Parrish was hit by a westbound Volkswagen Vanagon on Royal Avenue Tuesday night around 5:49 PM. The crash happened in front of the Albertson's grocery store, part of the Royal West Center.

Police say witness saw Parrish diagonally crossing Royal Avenue, heading in a northbound direction when she was hit.

Eugene Police’s Major Collision Investigation team closed off the intersection between Danebo and Candlelight Drive for several hours Tuesday night to investigate the crash.

The driver, 60-year-old Deborah Ann Douglas of Eugene has not been cited or charged in the crash. Douglas was uninjured.

Eugene Police say it appears alcohol is a factor in the crash. However, they have not confirmed who was possibly drinking.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Eugene Police Officer Meador at 541-682-5154, extension 1145.

Yes preventable if drivers start looking out for walkers. You should always be on your guard when driving. Not talking on the phone, not flipping radio stations. A child could easily run out in the road. I am tired of people blaming the walker. I regularly almost get hit by a car turning left when I am crossing the road downtown. Broad daylight I am in the middle of the road and they will get mad at me when I have the cross light. I see it all the time at South Eugene High 19th and Pearl. No one looks and sees the pedestrian. They just want to beat the car that is approaching across from them.

J-walking was once illegal for a reason, and if people don't use the crosswalks things like this happen. This is a very sad, but very preventable accident.
