VIDA, Ore. (KMTR) -- A father and-son fishing trip turned deadly Sunday on the McKenzie River. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said 38-year-old Peter Rutkowski of Eugene and his father Edwin took a canoe down the river; when they got to Martin Rapids just after 3:00 PM, their canoe flipped .

Authorities say the current pulled both men underwater. Rescuers said neither one was wearing a life jacket. Professional videographers on the river were the first to call 911. Rescuers reported Peter Rutkowski made it to shore; they found Edwin Rutkowski’s body a few hours later.
