EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A University of Oregon football player has been upgraded to fair condition after being attacked in a brawl near the University campus.
Around 12:30 AM Sunday morning, Eugene Police responded to a fight involving 20 to 40 people on East 17th Avenue and Hilyard Street.
According to Eugene Police, 19-year-old Redshirt Freshman Place Kicker Rob Beard was kicked in the face and head during the fight.
Police say Beard was walking with a fellow University of Oregon Football player, Redshirt Freshman Mike Bowlin when Bowlin got in a verbal argument with several other people. Beard allegedly tried to break up the fight when he fell to the ground and was attacked. Beard was knocked unconscious in the fight.
Beard was transported to RiverBend Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. Bowlin suffered minor injures, but refused any medical treatment.
Eugene Police have not made any arrests in the case. Witnesses described a black man wearing a red sweatshirt. The suspect may have been driving a car with Washington State license plates. Anyone with information should call Eugene Police at (541) 682-8888.
