WALDPORT, Ore. (KMTR) -- Two women died Sunday morning when the van they were traveling in was struck by a fishtailing flatbed trailer along Highway 101 about two miles north of Waldport.
According to Lieutenant Justin McGladrey, on January 6 at approximately 10:30 AM, a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with a Polaris off-road vehicle was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 152 when the trailer began to fishtail side to side. The pickup was being driven by Spencer K. Foley, 23, from Toledo.
The trailer disengaged from the pickup and entered the northbound lane where it collided with the driver side of a northbound 2005 Toyota Sienna van occupied by two women. Upon impact, the Polaris came off the trailer and struck the van.
The two adult women in the van were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Spencer Foley, passenger Bobbi J. Foley, age 23, and their 2-year-old son were not injured. The pickup was not struck during the collision between the trailer and van.
Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Newport Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Victims' information will be released Monday when next-of-kin notifications are completed.
All occupants were using safety restraints and the van's airbags deployed.
