EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) – Training Eugene’s future track and field professionals Saturday with today’s stars as kids took part in a youth clinic at the University of Oregon.

A couple hundred kids did their bet "run, jump, throw" in the annual kids track clinic Saturday morning, March 16, 2013 at Hayward Field before the Ducks opening outdoor track and field season opener.

Kids between five and twelve years old took part in the event, learning about running, long jump, hurdles, and javelin.

The hope is to get more kids working out and inspired to be track and field athletes. The event is run by the city of Eugene Recreation Services departments, the University of Oregon and Oregon Track Club Elite, Nike’s professional track and field team.

Organizers say it wouldn't be possible without the athletes who help organize all the kids at the various events.

"They do a great job, you know, I think being a part of this community and a part of TrackTown makes this a really special place, and our athletes are really special people too and so the combination is just magical,” said Kim McManus, Senior Supervisor for the city of Eugene Recreation Services.

2013 marks the event’s fifth year.
