EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) – From tickets to t-shirts, local groups are preparing for the unprecedented in Eugene this week, as the Oregon Ducks host the first Pac-12 Conference Championship game on Friday, December 2
nd, 2011.
The Ducks will take on the UCLA Bruins at Autzen December 2nd to determine who will move on to the Rose Bowl.
At the Duck Store, "Pac-12 North Division Champions" and "Pac-12 Championship Game" merchandise is on the way. The t-shirts aren't available yet, but employees told NewsSource 16 the shirts will have helmets and the Pac-12 championship trophy on them.
The game is unprecedented for the new Pac-12 conference. Questions remain as to how fans will react. UO plays the 6-win, 6-loss UCLA this year because USC is ineligible as a division champion due to NCAA violations.
"It's just so different you know, this is the first time the Pac-12 has actually had a trophy within its own division," said Matt Hester, Duck Store employee.
"Everybody's still recovering from the Civil War win and that's mostly what we've heard about. Everybody's really excited to have that under our belt, but I feel like starting tomorrow when it gets closer people are going to start talking about it a lot more,” says Hester.
The shirts are expected to be in stores by mid-week. The Oregon Ticket Office still has tickets left for the game costing between $90 and $120 dollars.
Friday's kickoff is at 5 PM at Autzen Stadium. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
