EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- A stunt gone wrong for ESPN’s College GameDay television show left the Oregon Duck without his head on Friday.
ESPN’s camera crew spent Friday afternoon, November 17 at the Creswell Airport shooting a sequence with the Oregon Duck mascot going skydiving.
The segment was supposed to be a surprise opening sequence for the show. But when the Duck got airborne and out on the plane’s wing, the wind resistance was too much and the head flew out of the skydiver’s hands.
ESPN showed the footage on College GameDay on Saturday.
“It's the first time I've flown [as] a Duck. I've been Santa's Elf a couple of times and Santa once,” said Urban Moore, owner of Eugene Skydivers. Moore interviewed with NewsSource 16 on Friday before the jump.
The Duck’s head was eventually found in one piece in a field in the Creswell area. The person who found it returned it.
