SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) -- The Arc of Lane County is a local nonprofit that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They hold a year-round clothing drive in partnership with Value Village and with Fall here, they want to remind folks to donate.

For every pound of clothing you donate, the Arc gets 35 cents. Among the Arc’s many programs, that money goes to providing local jobs and support for individuals with developmental disabilities.

There are a number of ways to donate clothes and there is no end date to the drive.

“This is really a call to action saying, we're still doing this. We're doing it in a bigger way,” says Julianne Harris of the Arc of Lane County. “My focus is really going to be employee clothing drives, neighborhood drives, yard sales, people having rummage sales at the end of the season. We want all that stuff to come to us when they're done with it. So, it's a ramp-up but it's not going away.”

Another fundraiser the Arc supports is coming up this weekend. It's the Emerald Family Down Syndrome Network's 6th Annual Buddy Walk. It’s all about celebrating Down syndrome awareness.

“We make it a celebration,” says the Arc’s Sydney Shook. “It's a celebration of the people who we love in our lives that have Down syndrome. It's a celebration of the advocacy that we've done in the community to support individuals with Down syndrome. It's a celebration of the accomplishments individuals with Down syndrome have made in our community. And it's just a fun time for our families.”

The Buddy Walk is coming up on Saturday September 29, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Amazon Community Center in Eugene. The Duck will be there along with guest speakers. Anyone can participate. They’re asking folks for a $10 individual donation or $30 for a family.
