EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Investigators say a fire at a downtown Eugene restaurant is suspicious.
The alarm was turned in about 5 o’clock Wednesday morning when flames were seen coming from the wall and roof at the back of the Ta Ra Rin Restaurant on Oak Street. The fire appeared to have started in a dumpster and spread to the building.
Lance Lighty of Eugene Fire and EMS said, “One of the beams, an older beam with maybe a little rot in it caught fire, but it's blocks. You can see the fire station from here. We are just a block from here.”
An outside automatic fire sprinkler system helped contain the fire to the outside of the building and prevented major damage. Firefighters say the restaurant should be able to remain open and conduct business as usual.
Another fire was spotted in another dumpster a few blocks away early Wednesday morning.
