Eugene (KMTR) - Until now, there has been no way to recycle Styrofoam in Lane County.

But would you put Styrofoam packing peanuts in your gas tank?

One day soon, you may do just that.

St. Vincent DePaul Society is launching an effort to keep Styrofoam blocks and packing material out of the landfills and turning it back into crude oil and other useful items.

For the next month, those peanuts and foam blocks may be taken to any St. Vincent DePaul drive-through donation or attended collection center, free of charge.

It will all be compacted, and then sent off to be made into either oil or plastic lumber.

At the end of the first month, a small fee will be charged for recycling Styrofoam.

I disagree - as long as it's only a small fee, I'd pay it just to keep all that Styrofoam crap out of the landfill!

There goes the great idea, no one will pay the small fee, free is only incintive to recycling. Unless it's made law!
