EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) – After building two homes for homebound veterans and their families in Eugene, Saint Vincent de Paul is expanding its program to add new homes.
The non-profit is almost finished with work on two new homes as part of the "Veterans Housing Project." The homes are both on Dove Lane in Eugene, near Willamette High School.
On the outside, both homes have been re-roofed, pressure washed and re-landscaped. Inside, volunteer crews have painted, put in all new fixtures, appliances, hardwood floors, new plumbing and more.
St. Vinnie’s says the project wouldn't have been possible without community support.
“There are so many community angels out there that give up their free time to come in and make this happen that we are well under budget and I think at least its been donated or at least sold at cost, everything we've done in these homes,” says Ed McMahon Executive Vice President of the Home Builders Association of Lane County.
These are the third and fourth homes in the Vets Housing Project. The keys to one home will be handed over to a National Guard soldier and his or her family this week.
