SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) –- The frustrating effort to apprehend an escapee from the Douglas County jail finally ended in Springfield Wednesday morning. Springfield police confirmed Thomas Ivan Grimes, who has been on the run for about a month, has been arrested.

Police considered him to be extremely dangerous. Last week he used a stolen car to try to run over a Springfield officer. Eventually, Grimes crashed the car at 42nd and Olympic Streets. He took off running before officers could arrest him.

Thanks to a tip, Springfield police caught grimes outside the city limits, near Fall Creek early Wednesday. The SWAT team and police dogs helped to apprehend Grimes, who was then taken to McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
