SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KMTR) -- A few weeks after a young girl says she was hit by a car near Hamlin Middle School, the parent of another student is sharing his concerns about pedestrian safety in the area. Tim Ogden's son attends Hamlin and Ogden typically picks him up near 5th and L Street.

Ogden says he regularly sees drivers going too fast or not yielding to students walking. He says he's spoken to Springfield Police and officers have offered to increase patrols in the area. Ogden says he appreciates their help, but also knows the problems will persist when patrol cars aren't in the area.

Ogden suggests other parents come together and create their own solution. The school doesn't have a crossing guard program and Ogden says he's willing to volunteer. He said he would speak with the school Friday and hopes other parents will be willing to give their time to keep the children safe.
