I just re-read the article and it states that the victim was not wearing a helmet. It seems to me that for someone who is described as being "very safety conscience (sic)" that she was doing multiple things that contradict that statement: ie, riding on the wrong side of the road, riding with no helmet, just to name two. Perhaps she did momentarily ride in the traffic lane. Perhaps there was glass or something else in the bike lane that she was trying to avoid. At any rate, the accident could have been avoided had she been on the right side of the road.

I'm sorry your friend was injured oregoniangirl, but if the article is accurate she was at fault for riding against traffic. Oregon bicycle rules state that bicycles are to ride with the traffic, not against it. Thus if she was riding eastbound she should have been on the south side of Centennial, not the north. The article doesn't say, but I sincerely hope that she was wearing a properly fitting bike helmet and that it was on properly. Too many people wear their helmets way too far back, leaving the front part of their heads exposed to trauma. Again, I'm sorry your friend was injured and pray that she heals completely.

I know this woman, I know how safe she is on her bike! And there is no way in hell she would have been partially in traffic. She was very safety conscience.
