Eugene (KMTR) - A chemical explosion sends Hazmat teams rushing to the University of Oregon and one person to the hospital.

The explosion happened at about 2:30 Wednesday on the third floor of Huestis Hall.

University spokesperson Phil Weiler says a faculty member was injured but the injuries are not life threatening.

The buildings and surrounding area were evacuated, leaving dozens of people standing outside in the cold.

Weiler says roads were closed as a precaution allowing hazmat teams room to investigate. "Despite the large response, we feel the issue was really contained to the third floor of Huestis Hall, and there is no immediate threat to the broader campus community, or the Eugene, Springfield community."

The building reopened at 4:00.

The cause of the explosion, and the chemicals being used remain unclear.
