times are tuff for everybody.I personally will be paying more of my income back to the state and feds this year in the form of taxes,, than in any other time of my life..where's my tax money going?..need to build some outdoor tent jails, make it uncomfortasble to be in jail.give criminals a reason to want to go straight.Need to also vote in a castle law, where i can defend my property with the use of deadly force like most othere states have.. I wonder if the new source of lane county sheriff dept. will be more traffic enforcement teams?

DA's Salary $138,507, Judges? I suspect it to be more. Tip of the iceberg. No comment on what they do to the innocent. My question is this: Why cut the publice servants that toil in the field? I suggest starting at the top, shaving back to just a bit above the median income of the working people they purportedly protect. Same with the grossly overpaid school administators. Look up the salary of those with the biggest waistline (monetarily), that "bellied up to the trough" of puplic funding years ago. Disgusting

"Punks" and "blind sheep"...intelligent arguments there, guys. I know all too well of what I speak. There IS crime out there, but there also IS too much of a free pass to LE folks who rant and rave about "all the crime" blah, blah. LE regularly "fudge" in their reports, do little or NO investigation (“let the system sort out the truth” as the system crushes those INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY)…when prosecutors blindly back those bad cops and don't take a good, close look at the evidence in EACH case, when offenders are grossly over charged (i.e. measure 11 charges all the time) to intimidate the accused into pleading a "deal"…when this garbage is passed off as “protecting citizens” then I say cut their budgets deep and wide and often!! Sadly, this seems to be the only way to get the attention of Thomas Turner and Alex Gardner to stop the “throw the book at the scum” attitude they have in our fine county.

NMB is just another blind sheep with a lot of hot air. It knows nothing about the frustration that law enforcement experiences when they cannot keep an offender locked up. It also knows nothing about the criminals blatantly breaking the law knowing that it takes several felonies to get locked up. Hiding behind a computer and not taking the initiative to go out there with the police and see what it entails. Talking with a prosecutor about the immense case load they have. Taking a tour of a prison and talking to inmates about how much crime it took that earned them a prison stint. Instead NMB knows it all yet nothing gets solved.

Punks like NMB should be the first to need help. What the hell is wrong with this county's tax payers. A deputy on duty has to drive from veneta to creswell on a call? Thats because Lane County tax payers would rather save $20 off the yearly taxes??? Its worse than eugene who wants to let a builder build a big housing downtown for students and waive the property taxes..Let them pay for their own housing elsewhere Maybe Knight can build them and and fill them at no charge

IT'S WAY PAST TIME FOR THESE CUTS, AND MORE! "Public Safety!, Public Safety!, Public Safety!" is the excuse the sheriff and prosecutor's office has falsely used to create a fat, bloated, and unnecessarily HUGE system of arresting, accusing, processing, and locking up more and more people. This is a MASSIVE business for them with far too little oversight…until now. During the last round of cuts they warned of dire consequences if their fat system was touched. Well, what happened? Nothing, that’s what happened. Sadly, they can not be trusted to tell the truth about the fiefdom they have created largely on the backs of poor, indigent citizens who do not have the means to fight back when they are improperly and unfairly attacked, yes attacked, by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Lane County District Attorney’s Office. Fortunately budgetary restrictions have done what should have been done a long time ago: rain in a fat and unnecessarily large government bureaucracy. Let’s see how they cry and whine and grandstand to the public about “More crime!, more crime!, more crime!”, then when our pleasant streets are not turned into pure anarchy as they falsely try to scare us into believing will happen, we will find we can live quite well with a much smaller Public Safety system in Lane County and NOT let them bloat back up when the budget problems resolve.

Maybe if people would vote yes to measures that would provide the county with the monies it needs instead of being overly offended at a loss of a couple bucks here and there, the county wouldn't be in this situation. I'm sure those people who vote down every last measure to fund public safety will be the first ones to complain when their expensive cars start getting broken into, and still they will most likely do nothing. Then again perhaps if our county commissioners didn't go on false trips to Washington DC to beg for money from other states on the tax payers dime we'd have more money - fire a couple of those idiots.

ntk, the reason is because this game plan has worked for the last 30 years, and probably longer then that. You dont cut what people can do without, you cut what we all need. This would be called extortion if you or me did this. And let me say this one more time, the reason this state, county and city do not have enough money is because the PUBLIC EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT SYSTEM IS BLEEDING US TO DEATH!

Public safety and public education should not be in the line of fire for budget cuts.

I don't understand......I just don't understand how we have an abundance of unnecessary programs yet our safety is ultimately going to pay the price for this. Some of our schools are down to 4 day weeks, less police on the roads, (the list is endless) yet the unwilling-to-work, low-life's can go down and get food stamps and medical coverage....I don't get it!
