NEWPORT, Ore. -- A surfer off Newport encountered a shark Thursday afternoon.

According to friends of the surfer, Bobby Gumm, it happened around noon off South Beach, by the south end of Newport.

After the shark took a bite out of his surfboard, Gumm brought it into Ocean Pulse Surfboards where employees took some pictures.

Police did not respond to the call because there were no reports of injuries.
