EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- The Sheriff’s Office wants Lane County residents to prepare for severe weather in next few days.
The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rain and potential flooding beginning Monday night through Wednesday.
Minor flooding is expected on the Siuslaw River, the Mohawk River and spots along the ainstem Willamette River.
Major flooding is not expected; however, minor flooding is an issue and should be anticipated.
The valley should expect up to an inch of rain between Monday and Tuesday morning. Between Tuesday and Wednesday morning the valley can expect another 1 to 2 inches of rain. The coastal range and foothills can expect 3 to 6 inches of rain between now and Wednesday morning.
For those living downslope in the coast range, be on the lookout for debris flow and landslides.
Many areas of Lane County will experience wind speeds up to and exceeding 25 mph with potential to bring down trees and power lines. Be prepared to live without power and water.
Emergency Manager Linda Cook says, “If you live in the 100-year flood plain, you should watch the river levels closely. Do not attempt to drive through high water. Take preventative measures to protect your property and animals. Do not travel during periods of intense rain unless absolutely necessary.”
