Eugene (KMTR) – A southbound semi truck carrying Christmas trees on I-5 crashed into an i-105 overpass pillar Monday night, closing both highways for about an hour. All lanes have been reopened.

The crash happened around 10 o'clock. State police were on the scene overnight.

“We found the vehicle wedged up against the bridge abutment of I-105 westbound that crosses I-5. The single driver appears to be wedged inside the vehicle itself,” said Oregon State Police Sgt. Alan Gilbert.

The driver, Red A. Nelson, 58, of Auburn, California, had only minor injuries after rescuers removed him from the wreckage of his cab.

Since the truck crashed into a bridge pillar, engineers had to check the structural integrity of the overpass. That was part of the reason several lanes of both highways were closed for a time.
