CORVALLIS, Ore. (KMTR) --On January 26, 2012 at approximately 7:30 PM, the Corvallis Police Department responded to the area of NW 29th Street and NW Fillmore and spoke with a female victim who reported she was attacked and assaulted by an unknown male.
During the subsequent investigation, officers learned the victim was walking from her residence to her vehicle parked in the driveway. The male suspect approached her from behind and tackled her to the ground. The suspect held her to the ground and struck her multiple times in the torso. The victim briefly struggled with the suspect at which point he fled the area.
With the assistance of Oregon State Police troopers and a canine officer from the Benton County Sheriff's Office, Corvallis Police officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6'0" to 6'3" tall with an athletic/muscular build and dark eyelashes. The suspect was wearing a black ski mask with one hole for both eyes, black athletic- style pants, white shoes and a dark navy blue or black hooded pullover-style sweatshirt. The sweatshirt had a white circle printed upon the back with cursive writing that extended from the lower left side of the circle, across the center, to the upper right.
The location of this attack is less than one mile from another attack that occurred on Oregon State University campus on January 16 at 10:10 PM. During this incident, the suspect attacked the female victim from behind and knocked her to the ground. The suspect was described as a white male in his early to mid 20s, approximately 6'0" tall with a 'bulky' build, short dark hair with a thin face and bushy eyebrows. The victim in that incident was able to provide enough information for investigators to develop a composite drawing of the suspect (attached).
Both attacks are similar in nature and police will continue to investigate the possibility both crimes were committed by the same individual.
The Corvallis Police Department would like to remind everyone to be constantly aware of your surroundings. At night, park your vehicle and walk in well-lit areas. Walk with other people and walk with purpose and confidence. Report all suspicious and out-of-place persons and behaviors to law enforcement.
