There is money to be made--and saved--on the web.  You just have to know where to look.

For example: If you’ve got books in good condition that you no longer want, you may be able to sell them at www.cash4books.net.  Here’s what you do: type in the book's ISBN numbers, which are typically found on the back cover or on the copyright page.  The site will tell you how much it will pay you for that book.  If you like what you see, complete the transaction online, then print out a prepaid mailing label.  Pack up your books and send them in.  You'll get a check in just a few days.

How about getting paid to shop?  Check out www.fatwallet.com.

This site gets a commission for steering you to participating retailers like Wal-Mart and Office Depot and it will share a portion of that commission with you.  When you make a purchase, you'll get a rebate about 3 weeks later.  We found rebates up to 20% at some online retailers through this site.

Ever notice when you're paying for an item online, there's usually a place to enter a discount code?  Where do you find these secret codes?  Try www.retailmenot.com.

There are more than 15,000 stores listed with discount codes for everything from home products to sporting goods and clothes.

If you're going to shop, why not save for your kid's college tuition at the same time?Head to www.upromise.com.  There, you can register the credit and debit cards that you already have and get cash back when you use those cards at participating retailers.  Once you've set up your account at upromise, earn money by shopping at more than 600 online stores, 8,000 restaurants, and more than 21,000 grocery and drug stores.  And you can designate that the money be directly deposited into your child's 529 college savings plan.

We also found a site that won't make you any money, but it could save you some. Check out www.hulu.com.  It's a site that was started about a year ago by NBC Universal and News Corp and it offers hundreds of movies and more than 900 current primetime T.V. shows--all for free.

You can get to all these websites quickly by clicking on ‘news links’ on the left-hand side of this page.
