EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- Santa Clara neighbors seeking to build a stronger community bond spent their Saturday with a first ever celebration.
Several dozen Santa Clara residents came out to Awbrey Park in north Eugene on Saturday, August 18, 2012, for the first ever Celebrate Santa Clara community party. A local neighborhood association, the Santa Clara Community Organization helped put it together, hosting games, activities and food for kids and parents.
While the neighborhood is growing fast and already has many families, Santa Clara's neighborhood organization says it wants to create a stronger bond between the local residents and neighborhoods.
“Ask the neighbors what they want to see the neighborhood become so things like community gardens and bike paths and more river access. A sense of community - that's the big one - and to enhance our neighborhood feel that we already enjoy about Santa Clara. We want to the city to learn what we care about as neighbors,” said Kelly Burke, a Santa Clara Community Organization board member.
The community organization just recently opened its first community garden at a local church. For more information on the group, click the following link: http://www.santaclaracommunity.org/.
