ROSEBURG, Ore. (KMTR) -- A
Roseburg teen's bike ride took a bad turn Monday. Not only did he crash his bike, police say he was also punched and robbed.
The 15-year-old says it happened Monday at about 3:30 in the afternoon. The teen told police he was riding on the bike path under the Southeast Stephens overpass near Rowe Avenue. He lost control after rounding a corner and crashed. As he was picking himself and his bike back up, the teen says he was approached by a man who then punched him in the jaw and stole his wallet
"All he took was the wallet. The boy said he didn't have any money or anything [in] it, so the male stood there, emptied out the wallet and then walked away with the wallet and that was basically it," says Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police Department.
The teen had never seen the man before. He described the suspect as being in his 40s, wearing dark clothing and smelling heavily of stale alcohol. So far the police have no leads.
Police say the teen went home and waited to tell his mom about the incident before reporting it to police. They want to remind people that if you're involved in a crime, you should notify the police immediately. The sooner they get the report, the sooner they can help.
