Reedsport (KMTR) – There are more job openings in Reedsport, now that an old rail line has been reopened. American Bridge Manufacturing is looking for more employees.

The company hosted a reception along with the Port of Coos Bay Tuesday to commemorate the return of rail service between Eugene and Coos Bay.

When the railroad shut down four years ago, American Bridge couldn't compete with other manufacturers because of higher transportation costs. The firm had to lay off workers.

Plant Manager Carlos Sambrano says the rail service will put jobs back on track.

“Should we be successful in some of this work we're trying to get, I'm looking to bring in a total of about 40 to 50 men and, hopefully, keep them working from May on,” Sambrano said.

Sambrano says he is already looking for new projects and has brought in more staff to get things started.
