I went to Springfield Junior High School in the 1950's. I think in keeping with tradition that the new school should be called Springfield Elementary School.

Why not Albert Walker Elementary, after the first mayor? I agree with @area51man, the "cultural sensitivity" gets taken too far, to the point where the "non-minorities" start feeling marginalized, which misses the entire point of equality.

hmmm. culturally sensitive? No doubt it is going to get renamed either something hispanic or something like Martin Luther King Elementary. I don't discount the contributions of other ethnicities, but let's find something that is locally relevant to the history of the city.
