Eugene (KMTR) – This week, Eugene police officers are reaching out door to door in areas near the University of Oregon campus to spread and important message.

In just a couple of weeks, university students will be heading home on holiday break. Police want to remind them to protect their possessions from thieves while they're gone.

Monday and Tuesday, officers will be canvassing the Kinsrow/Commons area. They have their mobile police station with them and they will be going door to door to show students how to prevent their belongings from being stolen while they're away for the holidays. Police will also leave informational flyers on cars.

Eugene Police report a significant drop in crime after this kind of outreach each year.

The officers plan to be in the West University area on Wednesday and Thursday.
