WINSTON, Ore. (KMTR) -- Police were called out to Lookingglass and Safari Road at about 10:00 AM Saturday. Witnesses called saying a man collapsed and fell from his bicycle.

Witnesses say Rodney Steven Congdon fell for no apparent reason. He was unconscious and lying on the road. When paramedics arrived, Congdon was pronounced dead.

With no identification on him, police were initially unable to identify Congdon.

“Having some sort of ID, whether it's on your bike or on your person,” is very important, says Chief Scott Gugel of the Winston Police Department, "for an incident like this, where we had no way to identify (the man). He was cycling by himself and therefore nobody knew who this individual was.”

Chief Gugel says it took officials more than a day to identify Congdon. Next of kin was notified and helped confirm the identification.

They're still not sure what caused his sudden death.

Police say this serves as an important reminder to always have a piece of identification on you, especially when taking trips alone. If you end up in trouble, knowing who you are could make helping you a lot easier.
