SUTHERLIN, Ore. (KMTR) -- Thursday at about
Sutherlin Police served a search warrant at the Relax Inn on Central Avenue
. Police say they had reason to believe the motel contained many stolen items and possibly narcotics.
Not knowing just how many rooms or people might be involved in the investigation, police wanted to keep the area safe and secure. They were assisted by members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, the Roseburg Police K-9 Unit and the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team.
Once inside the motel, officials found a lot of suspected stolen property and methamphetamine.
"We did take a lot of property that we either know or believe to be stolen property. It was a U-Haul trailer full of property," say Chief Kirk Sanfilippo with the Sutherlin Police Department. "So we have a substantial amount of property and it's going to take a while to sort through all the property and connect it to either burglaries, thefts or robberies . . . that have occurred in the Douglas County area."
Police arrested Marco Maxwell, the on-site manager of the motel and his girlfriend Jennifer Harris-Goodrich. Both are facing several charges, including unlawful possession of meth and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Earlier this week, KMTR reported on a similar incident in Sutherlin where police seized stolen property and illegal narcotics from a home on Pine Street. Because both investigations are still ongoing, police couldn't comment whether or not the two cases are related.
