EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) -- People parking downtown had to pack a few extra quarters Monday. Hourly rates for meters and garages went up October 1. One hour of parking now costs $1 instead of 75 cents.

Parking service employees are phasing in new signage for meters throughout the week, so drivers will have to look closely to figure out how much their stop will cost.

Monthly rates in downtown garages will remain the same and the first hour of parking will remain free. Rates in the University of Oregon area also went up last week and daily rates in garages will increase on the fifteenth.

All the extra fees should bring in about $500,000 in revenue, some of which goes to the city’s general fund. Those resources can be used for things like downtown police on bike patrol.

Eugene does NOT want your business. The downtown should be left to punk kids and bums. Another brain storm by your leaders. Watch the business's fold. Nice job Eugene

No big deal, I'll just go to the Valley River Mall and it's free parking. They have better rest rooms also.
