Eugene (KMTR) - Dozens of Oregon athletes are training for the trials this June. Not the track and field trials at Hayward Field but the National Trials in Indiana for the Paralympic Games.

At Sheldon High School’s practice track Sunday, two of last year's national team members raced each other in their wheelchairs. South Eugene graduate John Roberts and the youngest member of last year’s team, Carleigh Dewald, are both trying to make the team again, and land a spot at the Paralympic Games in London this summer.

“I've seen people from all walks of life compete at the highest level, no matter what their disability is and its just a mind-boggling thing,” says Roberts.

Dewald says, “It's been a fun ride and it makes you really proud—proud of your country.”

Group practices for aspiring Paralympic athletes are held in Eugene about once a month. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.
