EUGENE, Ore. (KMTR) - The PAC-12 sports conference plans to launch its brand new TV network in less than two months, recently announcing they'll air dozens of football games including some of the University of Oregon and Oregon State University's contests.
The PAC-12 network officially launches August 15th, about two weeks before the 2012 football season. However, it depends on what TV service one subscribes to in whether it will be accessible or not.
In Oregon, Comcast is the only major TV service provider with a PAC-12 network deal thus far. DISH, Direct TV, Charter and many other small cable providers in the state have not struck a deal to carry it yet.
Oregon's Athletic Department told NewsSource 16 it's important for those who want the network to speak up sooner than later.
"Send a message to your provider, let them know that you want the Pac-12 network because you enjoy watching the Ducks on TV," advised Craig Pintens, Senior Associate Athletic Director of the University of Oregon. "Pac-12 networks is planning on broadcasting 850 live events per year - that's nearly three per day, three live events per day for a calendar year - and that's going to provide tremendous exposure for some of the sports that haven't been represented as well."
Duck fans will get to see the team's second and third games of the season against Fresno State and Tennessee Tech on the PAC-12 "Oregon" region channel. Yet, that channel may be the only option to watch those games beyond being at Autzen.
For the Beavers, PAC-12 networks will air the home-opener against Nicholls State on September first.
Altogether, the network is set to air 15 different PAC-12 team games in the first three weeks.
